In the harsh Scottish highlands of 1565, superstition and treachery threaten a truce between rival clans. It’s a weak truce at first, bound only by an arranged engagement between Anne MacGregor and Niall Campbell-the heirs of the feuding families.

While Niall wrestles with his suspicions about a traitor in his clan, Anne’s actions do not go unnoticed. And as accusations of witchcraft abound, the strong and sometimes callous Campbell heir must fight for Anne’s safety among disconcerted clan members. Meanwhile his own safety in threatened with the ever-present threat of someone who wants him dead.

Will Niall discover the traitor’s identity in time? Can Anne find a way to fit into her new surroundings? Will the two learn to love each other despite the conflict? With a perfect mix of a burgeoning romance and thrilling suspense, this book is historical fiction at its best.

Love, heartbreak, and triumph lie deep within the wilds of the Colorado highlands.

Abigail Stanton’s whole life was rooted in her faith, a faith she now clings to for survival. After losing her husband and young son, Abby sets out alone, bereft, and heartsick. And when she is led to Conor MacKay’s doorstep, the very foundation of her belief starts to shift. As the volatile rancher’s new housekeeper, Abby is supposed to keep his affairs – and his capricious little girl – in order. Abby feels anything but order, though, when she and Conor are together.

Can love heal the wounds of the past? Or will Abby and Conor risk even greater losses than they have already suffered? The first in the Brides of Culdee Creek series, Daughter of Joy takes you on a journey of grief, intrigue, and redeeming love in the nineteenth-century Colorado highlands.

I got that one but haven't read it yet. Brilliant marketing ploy that the give so many first-in-a-series books away for free…

Megan Miller Shane August 30, 2012 at 6:18 pm

agreed :)… I was able to resist buying the rest of these but keep hoping they will come up… but the Green series and the Agnes Sparrow ones have all come up free at sometime and were good 🙂

Were they good? I spent the last year stocking up books on the kindle and reading books from the library so that I'd have lots to read when I got here. Now I'm trying to remember which ones I was excited about reading….
